-History-
DeTours Touring, LLC first opened for business in the Spring of 2010 as a versatile tour company. DeTours offered biking, running and Segway tours in Philadelphia up until 2011, when the company decided to focus on the interests of the avid Segway tour community. Today, DeTours gives Segway tours on four main routes known as the 3 hour tour, the 1.5 hour tour, the mural tour and the cheesesteak tour. The company also provides Segways for various local events allowing for faster and easier on-site travel for staff. These events have included concerts and parades around the greater Philadelphia area. DeTours has also lent its expertise in Segways for team building and corporate group events.
-Tours-
The 1.5-Hour Tour:
The 1.5-Hour Tour, or 90-Minute Tour, allows the Segway rider to get a nice snapshot of what Philadelphia has to offer. With a tour guide, the guest will be navigated through various neighborhoods in the city in a four mile loop, including Old City, Center City and the Avenue of the Arts. This tour is offered twice in the afternoon: one goes out at 1:30pm and the other at 4:30pm.
The 3-Hour Tour:
This tour is a slower paced, comprehensive tour of Philadelphia that is offered only at 9am in the mornings. It goes the same general route of the 1.5-Hour Tour but takes a wider loop down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the Art Museum and Schuylkill River Trail. The 3-Hour Tour stops half way for a quick bathroom and beverage break at Gavin’s Café.
The Mural Tour:
For the art enthusiast, the mural tour is a two hour loop that hits some of the most unique murals of Old City, Northern Liberties and Chinatown. Guests can ride their Segways up to 12 finished murals and one mural in progress (to be finished in August 2012) while learning their history and orientation to the city at large. This tour is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The South Philly Cheesesteak Tour:
This tour is for those who have ever wondered who truly makes the best Philly steak in town. Guests are given the opportunity to try for themselves at six different steak hubs as they Segway down South Street to the Italian Market and through Society Hill. Glide on through the most energetic parts of the city and have a taste on the way on this tour offered on Sunday afternoons.
